Acne Scars

Acne scarring is a topic that many people do not enjoy talking about because it often has the illusion of feeling like a lost cause. Acne scars are divided into two major types, one of which has the feeling of being more hopeless than the other.

Pigment Scarring

Pigment scarring is the first major group of acne scarring.  Pigment scarring refers to a type of acne scarring that creates an area on the skin that looks different from the area around it and quite literally is only skin deep.  The good thing about pigment scarring is that since it is not severe damage to the skin, the part of the skin that is scarred will eventually heal.  The reason hopelessness sometimes seeps into the equation however is that even though healing can occur, for people that suffer from chronic acne problems, healing can often happen concurrently with the next outbreak and for that reason scarring can always be present somewhere on the visible parts of a person’s skin.  This is a terrible situation to be in and for that reason there are certain acne treatments out there that can be used to help you accelerate the healing process when pigment scarring is the main concern involved.

Pit Scarring

The other type of scarring is known as pit scarring and it is far worse than pigment scarring in terms of the actual biological damage that is being done.  When acne pits happen, it means that the acne has been successful in breaking through the skin and creating some permanent damage.  Usually, pit scarring will not heal on its own and even if it does, the time taken for healing to take place can actually be measured in months and in some cases even years.  These types of pits are noticeable on many people in today’s culture and when people have severe acne scarring problems, it is usually because of consecutive layers of pitted acne scars having been built up over time.  There are acne treatments out there that can even help with pit scarring however and for this reason nobody is in a hopeless position with acne, even though their circumstances sometimes make it seem as though they are.
